Evidence of selection bias in preterm survival studies: a systematic review

Recommended data to be included when reporting preterm cohort studies

Cohort characteristics
 • Institution or geographical area
• Time period of birth cohort
• Maternal sociodemographic details
• Ethnic characteristics
Clear recording of all previous publications (including abstracts) relating to cohort
Coexistent perinatal therapies
• Antenatal steroid uptake
• Postnatal surfactant usage
Reporting of outcome
• Report outcome of all pregnancies (terminations, miscarriages, stillbirths, live births)
• Outcome reported in one week gestational age bands
• Report survival to a standardised age—for example, expected date of delivery
•  Initially report outcomes including all congenital malformations included then report separate subgroup analysis excluding congenital malformations
