VA/Q is the ventilation to perfusion ratio in the ventilated but poorly perfused compartment and was derived from the mean shift—that is, Pio 2 − Pc̄O2in kPa—using fig 2. The number after the patient code is the number of days after birth for repeat studies.r 2 indicates the goodness of fit of the gas exchange model to the Pio 2 v Spo 2 data points.9
